Create / Edit Events

Utilising the Event object is a great way of displaying and managing Council and community event information. The benefits of using the Event object include:

  • Management of event content is more efficient as this content can be set up to appear as well as expire automatically from the public website.
  • Greater ease of use for editing content: once this content object has been set up on a page, the user need only edit the content within the event object
  • Advanced front-end displays, like interactive calendars, listings and search forms.
  • Inclusion of events in the My Local Services App.


Creating Events

From the Content menu go > Council Data and select Events.

The Event window will open, Select New Event:

The New Content Event window will display where there are five tabs to register information about the event:

Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterix and must be completed.

Details Tab

  • Event Type can be selected from the dropdown list, or using autocomplete by typing in the field.
  • You can select multiple Event Focus from the dropdown list or using autocomplete by typing in the field.
  • Start Date and End Date are mandatory fields. Click the Calendar Icon to select a date.
  • Note, to have the Start Time and End Time displayed on the Events Calendar you will need to enter the time with a colon: ie 8:00PM

Location Tab

Adding a map marker will enable an interactive map for users of your website and will also enable enhanced location services, like navigation, for users of the My Local Services app.

Position the map using the zoom buttons and dragging it around. Once in position drop a marker with a single left click.

You can also drop a marker by searching for an address in the search box below the map. Enter an address, then click the Go button. If an address is found a marker will be dropped at the location.

Note: Ensure only one marker is on the map. The number of markers are displayed below the map. Click Clear Map to remove all markers and start again.

Contact Info Tab

You can register multiple contacts to an event. Each contact will be displayed in the order they are listed.

Event Contacts

To add a contact fill in the details you want displayed, then click the Add button to add them to the list.

To change the order of the contacts click the Reorder button, then click and drag to reposition the boxes. When done click the Save Order button.

Further Info Tab

The Further Info Tab is where you enter the description, images and other information associated with your event. 

Click the Edit Article button to open the WYSIWYG Editor.

Admin Tab

  • Select a Category from the drop-down list. If sub-categories are available they will appear below.
  • Search Priority allows you to control how likely your event will appear in the search results of the website.
  • Send To Metabase: Selecting Yes will include your event in the My Local Services app.

By leaveing the dates as the default (see image below) your event will be active (live) after submitting and deploying the website, but you can manually control when your event becomes active and when it expires if you wish. 

Content Dates Section

To make your event become active at a future date/time first change Active to No, then enter a future Active Date.

Events will expire automatically the day after the End Date of your event, or you can choose when to expire an event by entering an Expiry Date.

If you require a reminder to update your Event, you can enter a Date To Update.

To recive regular reminders enter a number in the Update Frequency field: ie every 30 days.

Saving an Event

When you have finished inputting all relevant or required information for the event, Select Save / Submit.

If approvals are enabled the Approved Content Event window will open.

Comment Tab: enter a comment to your Approval Officer/Manager advising of the changes you have made to the Event.

Notification tab: Scroll down till you find an Approver’s name and tick the box alongside their name.

Scroll down and select Save.

If Approvals are enabled, the selected Approval Officer will receive an automated email message advising them to Approve the Event.

After creating any content in unity, the final step is to Deploy.


Edit Existing Events

From the Content menu go > Council Data and select Events.

Here you will see a list of all the events, including past events. 
To edit an existing event click the Edit button.

  • Search events: Type keywords into the search box and press enter on your keyboard to complete the search.
  • Filter events: Click the Plus button and select parameters from the drop-down boxes, then click Apply.
  • Remember Search / Filters: Tick the Lock Filter box. Your search results and filters will be remembered until you un-tick the Lock Filter box.
